Day 30

(This will make more sense as you read further, but the top image is the same as the one below, but after I re-worked it.   And I re-worked it because after I posted the images of my paintings from the start and finish of this 30 day challenge,  I got to thinking that there were things I liked in the Day 1 painting that I could incorporate into the Day 30 painting.   At the bottom of this post is the Day 1 painting from the beginning of the 30 day challenge.)

Okay, hard to believe that I’ve done 30 paintings in 30 days (really 31, but that’s my trick for staying ahead that I managed on Day 18) !  Now the big debate is to whether to push it to 40 days.  The reasons to do so are for the enormous benefits (except financially yet) and the reasons not to–my taxes, getting income, getting a massage, etc. have all pretty much been pushed to a back burner…and I do need a break!  But my plan is to go for the spiritual push.  I just started May Cause Miracles, a 40 day program…And now, compare this one to the one I did on Day 1:

So, do you think I’ve improved?  I do.  But you may still like the Day 1 better.  I see I got closer in that one which may have made for a more interesting composition, but I think my colors and brushwork have improved–and my photography skills.

Update:  I kept thinking about these 2 bookend pieces and since the later one was still wet, no reason not to go in and “improve” it–I decided to make the shadow more of a presence, like it was in the first one (and I’ve posted the revised one at the top).  The only issue is then shooting the image in the evening…and now which one do you like better?

(I have an idea of what I want to do for the next 10 days…)

Hi Carol, well I must say I like the first one best. Your photography has improved (no glare which is so hard to perfect), I just love the shadow and the way you cut in the edge of the vase, it is strong and so striking to me. I’m curious about may cause miracles. sounds like my interests too. I am glad to have met you through this challenge and will definitely continue to visit your blog.Happy painting to you.

Day 1 was very nice, but I like day 30 even better. Love the color choices and the shadows.

I agree- you’ve improved! But your talent far surpasses what I could do period. What I liked is that even though you yourself felt improved, there was still something from the first work you preferred. And so you brought it forward. Bravo! It made a significant difference. There are always shadows.. It is part of beauty. What a nice mini-commentary on how we perfect our craft even as we stay true to our perspectives.
