My friend from high school lives near San Fran and offered to put me up for the week I was there.  She has 4 dogs, her dad, a roommate…and she offered me her bedroom and slept on the couch!  So I had to do something special for her and decided to paint her Dad.  They left  Java in the 1960’s…he is deaf now, in his 80’s, loves to read all day.   I really should have asked more questions about the history of both Java and her family….maybe next time.

For me it was an interesting challenge, of painting a back lit portrait, on a small canvas, cool light on the left, warm on the right.  Someone compared it to a Bonnard self portrait.  I looked them up (he did several) and I can see what he meant. That’s good enough for me.

Your friend really goes the extra mile, doesn’t she? Love your painting. It really shimmers.

Very nice! Love the use of color on the face. And the texture really brings out the color combos too.

Thanks all. I think they really liked it! (Of course they will never tell me the truth if they didn’t, but I think they did. That’s why I usually charge–then you know for sure.)
