So I get this call early this week to participate in an art show that is accompanying a rose show exhibit out in Newhall, CA which, depending on traffic, can be an hour drive…or more. I get so tired of all the effort and then typically no one even attends. But the guy was charming, convincing…so even though I’d sworn I’d not do it….I did. Plus, I had Bert to help me and come with, so we loaded up the car and off we went. Bert had this great idea that I could paint there…and the organizer loved the idea…so in went all the art supplies too. We got there…no one was there…we set up:
I painted the painting while chatting with the show organizer….The light was fleeting! Tables and tables of beautiful roses…
And pretty much no one was there. Finally, just as I was putting the finishing touches on, a wonderful gal I’d met at an art demo I’d done(who’d purchased the painting from said demo and lives nearby…so I’d sent her a last minute email…and she) came by…Trae is just a bundle of praise and encouragement…it does my heart good to see her.
I learned a lot doing the painting, thought about the shadows being warm and the light cool and in the end this painting is so much more dramatic than what I’ve been doing lately. And I’ve thought about why…the lighting, roses are dramatic, the chatting away, the size…getting out of the house…who knows? We’ll see what happens next.
Finally, my reward:
We left there with 9 vases of Show Roses! Around here that would’ve cost hundreds of dollars! I’m in rose heaven! So plenty of rose paintings coming up!
Plus, we stopped at our favorite Valley Vegan Vietnamese Joint….the car was loaded up with art, roses, and food…does it get any better? (Well…maybe if someone would buy a painting! hint, hint.)
Just beautiful, Carol!
Wow, thanks so much Marian!
