There’s quite a story behind this. It is the first painting I did during my stay at the Los Gatos Plein Air event. I had gotten in at 2 am the night before, the trip from LA taking 10 hours instead of what the internet said would be 5 (and I wasn’t sure there would be a way for me to get into my host’s place once I arrived). I checked in at the registration shortly before noon…one of the last to arrive. And yes, I felt pressure to paint, produce, succeed. The town is so cute! I saw so many things to paint. I started to sketch a scene with tons of flowers in front of a fleshy colored Spanish style house but soon realized it was overly complex…I realized I wanted to make life easy for myself and my viewer…so I got back in the car and then I saw this great blue house, in 1/2 shadow, 1/2 light and a funny little tree with orange flowers in front(maybe it was their back). Got out and started to paint it…the light was moving incredibly fast. The owner’s daughter came out and she loved it, said she wanted to buy it…off to a good start, huh? We exchanged info but she never really followed up. At the show on Saturday, this little painting was a hit. Hope to follow up with the other paintings I did last week…Stay tuned.
Beautiful work!
Carol your art is beautiful. I love how art can connect us with something inside ourselves. Like nature, I can get lost in it’s beauty. It doesn’t do anything, it just is. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent!
You capture the light so beautifully!

Thank you, Jennifer, that was my aim! And thanks Jennifer T too, and Stephanie.
LOVE those colors! And I wish I’d gotten a peek at the house, too. I love to look at houses.
I do watercolor but have never had the courage to do plein air. I am not confident of being able to keep up with the others in that type of setting, but I’ve always wanted to. I envy you the experience!! Love the light!
