Okay, so it was a “30 in 30” challenge and this is my 5th time. All of the other times I did 30 paintings, but as you can see, I did not pull it off this time. Life got in the way. I won first prize on 8/8 on the DPW website which meant, besides the money, being a featured artist for the month….so I decided to take full advantage of the opportunity by starting to paint and post daily from that point on…So I did 14 paintings in the last 3 weeks of August…and 27 daily drawings…and that was supposedly going to be my vacation after teaching 5 weeks of summer school…NOT! So then September rolls in with the 30/30 Challenge…and I’m game…except B’s brother suddenly decides (at least that’s how it affects my plans) to get married and we’re off to North Carolina. And I’m still thinking “I can do this!” But then…there’s the wedding…and driving from one end of the state to another (B wants me to see it all)…and jet lag and Jewish High Holy Days (some of which involve fasting (and possibly fainting)) and then the coup de grace: my computer dies, completely! I’m not really a big believer in doing more than one painting in a day, unless it’s quick sketches of a model or something…So I missed a lot of days. But I’m satisfied. My collage is better looking than when there are more paintings. I didn’t start out with the idea of a theme…but as you can see, except for 3 of them, all of them relate to water, and many to the setting sun. I still got a tremendous value out of the “challenge” even if I was not able or willing to complete the number. And, after all these challenges, I can see that there’s an ease setting in about painting more often. Which does not mean I’m not going to take this week off–because I AM! I have some intense painting periods coming up this month…and for a little while it’s time to put some other stuff on the front burners. Thanks for stopping by…and I treasure your comments.
