After 23 years of
hanging in their law firm boardroom, one of the lawyers "inherited" the
painting that had originally been commissioned in 1986 (see article
below) by Girard, Ellingsen, Christensen & West. Its latest
location was at 865 S. Figueroa, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles,
the law firm of Davis, Wright, Tremaine, on the 23rd floor. Bob
Girard, Rick Ellingsen, and their still-with-them office manager, Susan
Seales decided to contact Steinberg to find out how she was doing and
how much the painting might be worth these days. They all went to
lunch and the idea came to have a repeat of the past. They
generously agreed to allow Steinberg to move in to some temporarily
vacant office and an open conference room (it was during the winter
holidays). Steinberg painted several paintings over the course of
a couple of weeks, and even figured out how to use the coffee machine.
All good things must come to an end, but she still has hopes of
returning to paint the night view and attending the Downtown Art Walk
with her newly reacquainted patrons.
