Palm Off 10 Freeway

Palm Off 10 Freeway, gouache, 7 x 5

I am ready to stop the challenge…not sure I can keep it up if I have to post the same day’s work…but it does get me to just get in there…much as I would find an excuse not to do so without it. Also, tempted to break the series…we’ll see.

White House Shapes

White House Shapes,oil, 8 x 10

Yesterday’s painting in oil. Actually I spent today in synagogue…and I’m exhausted. I’ll have to play catch up tomorrow.  Also, sorry I was unable to respond to comments nor visit others.  More catching up.

Here’s a fun treat.  I found this painting from 15 or 20 years ago.  It’s of the same house–but it had weird shaped bushes at that time–I kind of wish it still did.  Oh well, everything changes…and sometimes that’s a good thing.

Little White House

Little White House, gouache, 6 x 6

I see this little house as I leave the garage and I always find the shapes intriguing.  The place has changed ownership and they changed it quite a bit but it still retains its funky little shapes.  I am going to do an oil version too.

Dawn Palms, oil, 10 x 8

I started this with translucents and then piled on paint with a knife.

Overland

Overland, mixed media, 9 x 12

Well, I decided it was time to literally go back to the drawing board.  I missed drawing and feel like there are some issues that are hard to solve with just paint. So this is the beginning of a few of these.  Of course, I could not resist using a bit of color…but you can see that I started with pencil…then tried markers and watercolor and gouache.  I’m tempted by a watercolor class or two…even though it’s never been my first choice of medium.  I’m tempted by a lot of art supplies and classes though.  Go figure.

Palms Nocturne

Palms Nocturne, oil, 8 x 8

I don’t know that the studies had any effect on this.  Hmm.  Do you like this one or the gouache?  The thumbnail studies or the bigger “study.” I will need to revisit this.

Nocturne Palm Studies

Nocturne Palm Studies, oil, 8 x 8

Just thought I’d play around with different ideas on how to paint darkness in the city, using oils this time. before I attempted the actual piece.

Palms Nocturne, gouache, 6 x 6

Next–some oil studies and then, hopefully, an oil.  It’ll be interesting to see the difference…at least to me.
