Money Tree, oil, 7 x 5, $125

Hallelujah! I did it! 40 paintings in 40 days! (actually 41, but who’s counting?) Now I really need a break! We’ll see how long I need…but this has been fabulous discipline for me. Today I went to a painting demo from 9 to 11 at TAG, then came home and painted for a couple hours. I also ate lunch, which I regretted because it interrupted the painting and when I came back to it the lighting had already completely changed. Then we drove up to Ventura to drop off a painting at a gallery up there, watched the sunset on the beach (it was cold and windy), ate some Italian food and dropped in on Ignat Ignatov’s reception at Cal Lutheran U on the way back.

The painting is of a plant I got to help with the feng shui of prosperity–it’s called a money tree plant….can’t say I’ve noticed yet…it’s been there a while…. Happy Chinese New Year!

Left Studio Corner,oil, 8 x 6, $125

This whole project has encouraged me to explore painting situations I had considered too complex to bother with before. I’m left with a diary of my apartment…I doubt anyone wants them…and I’d sort of hate to part with them anyway…so personally meaningful. The plant was an attempt at feng shui-ing myself into prosperity–but trust me, it looks better in the painting…the green pillow travelled to India with me. The futon has been used by some guests, blanket on top was one I used to cover me when I napped in the car as a substitute teacher years ago…canvases stacked in the corner, probably counteracting the plant?

Living Room Office, oil, 6 x 6, $125

I haven’t tried to capture the indoors and outdoors at the same time quite like this. I’ve seen this chair hundreds of times but never thought of it as the subject for a painting before. I was listening to a Pleasure, Passion and Feminine Power Party online hosted by Daphne Cohn…and one of the women leaders was Rachel Resnick. She threw down a challenge to send her a sensual moment experience to win a consult with her. I’m big on challenges lately so I did it…and I won! Morning Coffee, oil, 6 x 6, $125

Yesterday I started teaching my college drawing class again…normally that would not be a day that I would have thought had time for painting…but see, I did it anyway…this is one reason I have pushed myself to make the 40 day mark…I’m already worried about Saturday, the last day, being over-scheduled, but I will do something! This small size holds way more than you’d think possible.
