I was contemplating creating another still life set up, but this accidental arrangement caught my eye so I went for round 3 of these players.
It’s a fittingly gloomy Halloween today, but when I painted these at the beginning of the week, it was a sunny autumn day. Marigolds are so cheerful, and yet considered “the flowers that attract souls of the dead to Day of the Dead celebrations”(right off the tag on the plant)– well, they are pretty attractive. May they warm your day whatever you are celebrating.
The thing about autumn is it brings out all these rich harmonious colors…like trees turning red, yellow orange marigolds, and orange pumpkins. I was once typed as an Autumn–for like 15 years…I don’t think that was correct…and it’s been a relief for me to give it up…but I do think I fall near the border of Autumn…painting these colors is better for me than wearing them. Marigolds are so hot and make me happy to look at…and they make me sneeze. Do they affect you that way too?
