Ordinarily, I would not have painted today. B was rear ended last night and as you can imagine, it’s a lot of chaos…he’s in pain, etc. I can’t believe I managed to get this done. The light was moving fast. I happened to be reading Carol Marine’s book last night and she specifically mentioned that yellow and red were the most difficult colors to get right…which was a surprise to me, and couldn’t help thinking: “now you tell me” since I had just painted a yellow and red bell pepper that very day (and a red tomato). So I figured I’d tackle these hot primaries again…I changed the ground color from cream to a grayish greenish yellow, which led to darker shadows in the waning afternoon light. There’s a gallery opening tonight of a show I have a couple small pieces in but B is at the acupuncturist…we’ll see how he is after (and a chiropractic appointment already set up for tomorrow). I have to pick up the piece that was in a different gallery tomorrow and hoping I can get another landscape done while out there.
