Hot Pink Zinnia

Posted on September 21, 2017 by Carol Steinberg

Hot Pink Zinnia, acrylic, 6 x 6

I have tried to find the color of these zinnia in oils to no avail…so I thought I’d play around with acrylics because there is a tube that comes closer…but it’s still problematic…Any other color tends to dull the purple and make it gray….maybe it’s just not the best subject for oils…or acrylics!  Still, even approaching this wonderful color is fun.

Farmers Market Zinnia, oil, 12 x 12

Haven’t been to the farmers market in a while.  These were a last minute $3 purchase that I’m glad I made.

Zinnia, Statice, Dill, oil, 20 x 20.

Tomorrow starts the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge which I have participated in every time since its inception–so I think this is # 6. I admit I have been holding back on posting in order to be somewhat “ahead” and take the pressure off.  Still, I’m  looking forward to a little more pressure to paint as close to daily as possible. I actually painted a different bouquet today, but it won’t post for a week or so.. They are both inspired by a trip to the Santa Monica farmers market where I found this bouquet and the one I painted from today.  I liked the analogous colors in this one…and the smell of the dill!

On a side note: Someone actually completely copied this and put it up on her Instagram account.  I don’t think she acknowledged me–she was from some Asian country and the account was not in English.  She was kind of young…so I don’t know….should I be flattered?  The funny thing was she “liked” a bunch of other posts, but not the one she copied….and yeah, she’s “following” me.  Maybe I should follow her to see how many more pieces she copies?!
