This is the second painting I did during the Los Gatos Plein Air Festival. It was the second day and the only day that it seemed like there was time to have an adventure. During lunch the preceding week, my friend of 30 years, Jim, insisted I check out Capitola someday…and since that had only been 5 days earlier when I had not realized how close that was to Los Gatos, I decided to investigate. It was beautiful…but there was a big problem…permit parking only almost everywhere and very few places to park. I drove around in circles for hours and just as I was about to give up, I passed this area that I had spotted at the beginning. I waited for a parking spot and was soon painting. It was hard to orient the easel so as not to be in direct sun but with the help of a passerby I figured it out…I probably should have just stayed in Los Gatos, but it was a fun adventure, ending in a cheap but good Chinese restaurant in adjacent Santa Cruz. I was exhausted and hungry! I should have looked at a map…didn’t know all these towns were so close to each other.
