I set the alarm for 6 am this morning to see if I could get to early yoga…I used to do that every day, but I’m out of the habit…and it didn’t happen…Habits! So I went for the floral vase/landscape…but I went bigger than usual (lately–I used to do 40 x 30 all the time) because it was a gray day…and I actually love that for painting because the light is stable…subtle, harmonious. This bouquet was packed with eucalyptus leaves…like little fans catching the sky light–and statice, lilies, yellow daisies.
So I’m giving everything a little more “space” and wonder if that works better or not. Usually I fill the picture because I’m interested in the negative shapes. I’m still interested in that. In fact, the space between the oil bottle and the vase is what most inspired me to paint this in this way. What do you think? Does it look like there’s too much space around the subject? The pink flower looks like it’s shading the veggies…hence the title.
